“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.” ~ Neil Gaiman
I would add…the word EXCITING to the end of this quote! More importantly, you’re doing something EXCITING!
What exciting things will 2022 have in store for you?
Perhaps a workshop to learn something new? Or an online class to improve a hobby skill you already enjoy!
Or…maybe…you will plan a trip to the beach, mountains, botanical garden, high desert, or explore a new country? It’s time to dream!
And while you are dreaming…you can refresh your home with a few simple ideas that are bound to make you smile!
I absolutely love decorating for the holidays and enjoy the cozy feeling the special decorations evoke…and…I also enjoy the spacious feeling when those same decorations are boxed up and put away at the end of the season!
Wheew! It feels like a breath of fresh air! The house suddenly feels uncluttered and I am not in a rush to “re-clutter” it.
Minimal Winter Decorating Ideas
Find a beautiful tray…perhaps one that you don’t use often.
Add a couple of champagne glasses…a bowl of fruit or chocolates and other small items that you love! A candle is always a good idea!
I’ve seen some incredibly beautiful stemware in the thrift stores lately…you don’t need to invest in a whole set…just a couple of pieces that you love.
Place the tray on your kitchen counter or on a table where you enjoy your first cup of tea or coffee of the day. Light the candle and enjoy the sheer DELIGHT of your creation!
Blue…Brass…Birch
Keep it Simple!
After your Christmas decorations are put away, look at your foundation pieces to see if you can “winterize” them.
Something Blue
I added silver tinsel branches to our blue vases and placed a single ceramic ball in a bowl. This minimized the work, and added a little winter sparkle to the table!
Something Brass
Vintage candle holders, winter figurines, a teapot, or decorative bowls… and don’t forget…you can make anything look brass with a can of spray paint!
Something Birch (or anything from Nature)
Choose artificial trees that light up or cut branches from your garden and arrange them in a tall vase.
