Happy New Year!
Here we are...finally...2021! Thank goodness! A new chapter...a clean slate...a fresh start! I am hopeful this year is going to be much BRIGHTER than 2020.
Although most of us are still on Stay at Home restrictions, there are many things we can do at home this month. To get the year started off right, we compiled a list of 10 fun things you can do in January! And...to help inspire you for #2 and #6 we have a list of books to explore and a cocktail recipe from the 1920's!

Books to Explore
Here are a few books that might inspire you this month! Things to do #2.
Subjects: flowers, crochet, and photography!
My favorites from this collection.....A Year in Flowers written by local Washington flower grower Erin Benzakein, Food Photography for Bloggers by Matt Armendariz , and Modern Crochet by Molla Mills.
Modern Crochet
Do you need a project to keep your hands busy while watching TV in the evenings? How about crochet?
This book has tons of fun projects and good instructional illustrations for beginners and experts.
I used Hudson Bay Wool-Ease yarn from JoAnns and a Number 10 hook to crochet several small storage bins.
The pictorial instructions were easy to follow.
You can make four small bins with one skein of yarn.
Exploring Winter Light
Winter light in Vancouver is usually gray and...well...more gray. Maybe even 50 shades of gray!
But that does not mean it is boring…
…it creates silhouettes that are stunning
Place a few interesting objects on your window sill today and watch how the light plays with them throughout the day.
Fun Trivia
This is an instagram post from my friend and interior designer, Beth Clark. I found it was very interesting and wanted to share it with you!
In this same feed the word Davenport was mentioned. Did you have a davenport when you were growing up? I was CURIOUS to know where that term came from.
"A davenport is a piece of furniture that you might lounge on in your living room — it's another name for an upholstered couch or sofa.
Exactly how people describe a davenport depends on where they're from. In some parts of the U.S., a davenport is an especially fancy sofa, while in others it's one that can be converted into a bed. The name comes from a 19th century Massachusetts furniture maker, A.H. Davenport and Company. The family name Davenport goes back to a town in Cheshire, England. Earlier, the word referred to a small desk used for writing letters." ~ vocabulay.com
Now we know!

Finding Intersections
A photographic metaphor for the current situation in the United States.
The same story or event told from opposite perspectives. Selective facts and fiction mixed together...creating a wider and wider gap.
Division through misinformation...manipulated truth leads to dangerous and deadly actions.
We must find the intersection of truth, think for ourselves, be diligent fact finders, and have courage to speak up! Seeking understanding and having respectful conversations is the only way to find our way back from this chaos.
A Note From Deb
Hello! Usually by this time in a New Year I have recorded a long list of "intentions" for work, for personal development, and for home and garden projects. But...this year I am moving slowly...still auditioning ideas, words, and thoughts that will be meaningful for 2021. Flexibility will be a key to success as the pandemic eases with the vaccine and restrictions are lifted...but who knows what that will look like or when it will happen.
2020 was a very stationary year...I hope 2021 will be a year of movement! Lots of playful movement! My grandson is teaching me how to play like a kid again...and its wonderful!
Here's to more play time in 2021 and enough flexibility to ride the wave of the unknown!
Until next time!
