Frosty Mornings

We drove to Idaho for Thanksgiving, and on our way back to Washington, the roads were covered in dense fog. As challenging as driving in fog can be, Mother Nature had a way of making up for it with an enchanting display of rime frost, magically coating everything in sight.

When we arrived at the summit of the Blue Mountains, the sun was shining and bright blue sky accented the beautiful frost sparkling on the trees and bushes.

Fun Fact about Frost

According to the National Weather Service, there is a difference between Rime and Hoar Frost

Rime Frost: moisture comes from freezing fog water droplets that turn directly from a liquid state to a solid state, or through direct freezing.

Hoar Frost: occurs on a clear, cold night where water vapor sublimates: transitioning immediately from a gaseous state to a solid state.

Rimes Embrace

At dawn, the world is veiled in white,
A frost-born kiss of winter’s might.
Each branch adorned, a crystal lace,
A fleeting art, a frozen grace.

The rime clings soft to leaf and bough,
Transforming all it touches now.
A silver world, serene, profound,
Where silence hums and beauty's found.

The morning sun begins to rise,
Its rays ignite the frozen guise.
A sparkling dance of light and shade,
A masterpiece by nature made.

Transient art, so still, so pure,
A moment’s gift we can't secure.
Yet in its breathless, frosty charm,
It holds the world in winter’s arm.

Our area has been blanketed in fog lately as well, transforming the landscape into a magical scene with frost delicately covering everything.

As the frost melts away it leaves behind a reminder of nature’s fleeting beauty—moments that can’t be recreated but can be cherished.

I hope these images have captured some of that magic and inspired you to find wonder in the small, quiet details of the season. Until next time, stay warm and keep an eye out for all the little wonders that surround you.
