DIY Mini Wool Pumpkins

As autumn sets in, there’s no better time to cozy up with a fun craft. DIY mini wool pumpkins are simple, quick, and perfect to make while watching your favorite show or listening to a podcast.

Versatile and charming, they can be used in centerpieces, mantel displays, or as bowl fillers. I happened to find a giant bag of felted wool balls at a thrift store, but they also available online and at your local craft store.

Follow this easy tutorial to bring a touch of handmade Fall warmth to your home.

Supplies

Pearl Cotton Thread (size 5)

Long Milliner’s Needle

Awl (optional)

Felted Wool Balls in different sizes and colors

A Wood Branch cut into small pieces for stems

Scissors and a Hot Glue Gun

Instructions

1) Poke a hole in the center of the ball with an awl. This may or may-not be necessary depending on the size of your needle and how tight your wool ball has been felted.

2) Thread your needle with pearl cotton and tie a knot at the end of the thread. Poke the needle through the ball at the center. You can roll the ball on the needle to see if it is centered. If not, adjust the needle position.

3) Pull the thread through the ball so the knot is snug.

4) Wrap the thread half way around the ball. Place the needle through the ball again entering at the knot. Pull the thread tight to form an indent in the ball. Squeeze the ball to form a flatter pumpkin shape as you tighten the thread.

5) Continue wrapping the ball with thread to form the veins of the pumpkin. I made eight thread veins on each pumpkin. When you are finished creating the veins, secure the thread with a knot at the bottom of your pumpkin.

6) Hot glue a small stick stem to the top of the pumpkin.

How to Style your Mini Pumpkins

Place a pumpkin on top of a leaf and then on top of a linen napkin. This creates a cute accent for your holiday table. You can then give the pumpkins to your guests as a little party favor!

String two of the pumpkins together and use them for package decorations.

String several of them together with wood beads to make a garland for your table or mantle.

With just a few simple steps, these handmade mini wool pumpkins add the perfect touch of autumn warmth and charm. Whether strung as garlands, used as place settings, tucked into wreaths, or placed in a decorative bowl, these versatile decorations bring a playful touch to any space. Plus, making them is not just easy…it’s also fun and relaxing!
