Greetings avid readers! May has arrived and I’m excited to share with you four books that are full of creative and inspirational content! Let’s get started!
The Foraged Home by Joanna Maclennan
Joanna describes her book as a celebration of both sustainability and design, filled with salvaged, recycled, and repurposed objects from around the world.
This book is filled with beautiful photography of unusual home interiors. I especially enjoyed the converted church, boat shed, and the floral sculptures inspiration.
Little Farmstead Living by Julie Thomas
Have you ever dreamed of living on a small homestead? If yes…then this book is for you. It is filled with gorgeous still life images and the story of how one family from Washington State made it happen! A must peruse for all photographers!
This book has an unusual approach to creativity using library inspired finds and research tools. The author says that she is “lucky to work as a rare book librarian at the New York Public Library. On any given day, I might assist a graphic designer who is interested in finding examples of a particular early typeface, or help a children’s book specialist to compare illustrations used in different editions of an iconic story.”
There are 20 projects with instructions in the book. I appreciate her use of antique images, maps, and other library materials as inspiration for craft projects.
Although I probably won’t make any of the projects in the book…my take away was impactful and has inspired me to look at things differently next time I go to the library!
Yellow Owl Workshops’s Make it Yours by Christine Schmidt
If you like printmaking and patterns you may like to jumpstart a new project with this book. It is “beginning crafter” friendly and has several projects for printing on fabric and paper.
I was inspired by the transfer technique on finished ceramic plates. I might just have to try making some custom dinner plates!
Happy reading!
