Holiday Decorating with Red and White Vintage Finds

Thrifted red and white pottery make wonderful centerpieces for your holiday table and can set the stage and spark other decorating ideas in your home. Simply fill them with fresh greens and you have an instant statement piece for your table, buffet, or kitchen island.

My 2023 holiday decorating was inspired by a coffee pot and some red and white egg cups I found at a charity shop in Germany this summer.

My friend @paulahandmade took me to several thrift shops in Fulda and I was in heaven! Although Paula says she “does not buy old things” she was a really good sport and fed my passion for “the hunt!”

The inspiration coffee pot was 5 euro and the egg cups were each 1/2 euro. And…yes…I brought them home in my suitcase!

The charity shops in Fulda were very clean and well organized. And…the shelves were full of items unique to that region.

I researched the coffee pot by its backstamp. It was made in England. Staffordshire is the county where this style of earthenware, stoneware and porcelain were made.

The Country Life pattern was made in the 1950’s.

The egg cups were made by Villeroy and Bach in the 70’s. This is the Burgenland Pattern.

The red and white designs are perfect for Christmas decor. Fill the egg cups with holly…or use them as tiny tree stands for your tablescape.

I recently found another pot…believed to be a tea pot…at Goodwill. I thought it would be a wonderful companion for the coffee pot.

According to my research…surprise…this is also a coffee pot! It was made by Spode in 2000 as signified by the letters AO on the backstamp.

Every detail on these pots are beautiful…even the shape and designs on the tiny lids!

Decorating with Tea Pots

If you can’t find vintage coffee pots…use what you have in your cupboards…anything white or red will work for the holidays!

I have several white tea pots that I collected while living in Shanghai. They have been sitting in our china hutch for a few years waiting for a moment to escape! This was their lucky year!

Use different shapes and sizes to create interest and anchor them with a table runner and a berry garland. When it gets closer to Christmas, use the tea pots as vases to hold fresh greens.

This is another red and white vintage find. I fell in love with the red berries on the pitcher. After some internet sleuthing…I found that these are very old pieces and the pattern name is Strawberries and Butterflies, made by Fenton/Edward Brothers.

They are transferware ironstone and have interesting backstamps.

While I was taking photos of these beauties…I chipped the platter. (sad face emoji)

Next time you shop thrift and vintage stores…check out the red and white porcelain! You might just find a holiday decor treasure you can’t live without!

Thinking outside the winter holidays…you could also use these items for valentine and independence day decorating! They are basically three for one…and that’s a bargain in every way!
