January Book Selection
When your books serendipitously match your home decor
Are you curious about Scandinavian Design and Traditions? I am! And that curiosity influenced several of my book choices for January.
The Yule Tomte and the Little Rabbits is very cute. A Tomte (aka gnome) is a popular Scandinavian mythological character that is in charge of safeguarding a family against misfortune. (traditionally a farm family)
The story is cute…this Yule Tomte pretends to be grumpy but actually cares for everyone who crosses his path. I really enjoyed the beautiful illustrations!
Made for Living and Home Style by City are both home decor books and at first glance look to be inspiring!
My favorite book so far is Simply Scandinavian by Sara Norrman, Magnus Englund and Caroline Clifton-Mogg. It was published in 2010 but the photos and content seem timeless. There are lots of inspiring still life photo images!
Baking with Cookie Molds is a good read if you are interested in these beautifully carved molds. The author time travels with St. Nicolas to observe how the molds were used starting in the 1700’s.
There are many different cookie recipes and she reveals the secret ingredient for successful dough “release” from the molds. Spoiler alert: It’s honey instead of sugar in the batter.
Swedish Christmas Traditions is full of interesting recipes including a fried dessert shaped like pigs.
I looked through the quilting books…enjoyed the projects…but have already returned them to the library. Sooooooo many tempting projects…soooooo little time!
If you like detective books…you will enjoy Still Life by Louise Penny. It is the first in a series. The detective is from Canada and eats licorice pipes. If you are curious about licorice pipes…you can find them here.
