Holiday Decorating with Pinecones & Vintage Crochet
Minimalist and Natural
That is the theme for our Christmas decorating this year! To tell the truth…I did not open a single Christmas decoration box…It’s true! Keeping it simple this year with found and foraged decorations inspired by Scandinavia and The Netherlands.
Natural wood, pinecones, fresh greens, and vintage crocheted doilies are the connecting theme.
Create this Centerpiece
Start with a green velvet table runner. Then, layer several shapes and sizes of crocheted doilies to create a smaller runner at the center of your table.
Add wood trees in a variety of heights and shapes. Place them randomly on top of the doilies.
Note: I found some of these trees at Target and the rest were cut on the bandsaw from scrap wood.
Place natural looking candle holders among the trees. Set a small twig wreath around the base of any candle holder to give it a natural woodland look.
Next tuck fresh greens on top of the doilies and around the trees and candles. Add pinecones and…
..natural wood items like these balls.
Continue the Theme
Continue this theme with vases of fresh greens sitting on a tray. Add doilies, festive gloves, and more pinecones.
Simple mantel decorations of greens, pinecones, and white vases topped with vintage glass candle holders take just a few minutes to arrange.
Fill trays with white candle holders, mini pinecones, and tiny twig bird nests.
If you have a larger crochet piece use it as a runner on a side table.
Place a wood bowl on top of the runner. Drape the sides of the bowl with smaller doilies. Lay a piece of clear plastic wrap over the doilies to protect them then fill the bowl with greens ,small wood trees, and more pinecones!
Add wood animals or other holiday figurines next to the bowl.
Dried poppy pods or other natural items from the garden can also be added.
Fill a bowl with pinecones and add brass candle holders on any table in your home.
Repeat the wood bowl idea for the kitchen! Add fresh oranges and dried orange slices to the bowl. If you don’t have oranges…use limes, lemons, apples, pears, or pomegranates! All of these will add a pop of color and embody the “natural” decorating theme!
This is a really fun way to use your grandma’s crochet doilies! They add an illusion of snow and look soooo cute!
Pinecones and candles are both “big bang for the buck” decorating items. Forage pinecones locally and look for a variety of shapes and sizes.
I believe Ikea has the best price on boxed white candles. Wrap them with ribbon and place them on a tray next to a candleholder…or…
…simply fill “things” with a a collection of pinecones and candles! Simple and Stunning!
