Garden Shed Makeover -Take 3!
“Never neglect an opportunity for improvement!” ~ Sir William Jones
Our garden shed is “evolving” again! It seems there is always room for improvement in functionality and this year we made some more changes.
If you would like the whole backstory of this shed your will find it here and here!
You might think that I can not make up my mind about this space…but in reality…the more we use it…the more we understand how it can be organized to best accommodate our tools and equipment and current needs. Last year was the first year we actually had a vegetable garden so as time moves forward…so do our ideas and requirements.
There must be a metaphor for life in that…what worked yesterday may not work tomorrow or next week…and that’s okay! I think we’ve all learned that lesson during the past year.
Here are the changes we made for 2021…
Before and After
We added a side shed for our field mower, moved two doors, built a new tool wall in the interior, and gave it a fresh coat of paint!
One could say that Tim, my husband, has been kicked out of the shed…but I like to think he got his own space! It’s all perspective…right? lol
Side view of Before and After
Before construction could begin…we had to move this giant pile of wood!
A funny side story….Things don’t always go as planned…
Originally the new addition was going on this side (right side) of the shed…after partial consonstruction and much angst…we decided that it was too close to the property line and my husband “unconstructed” it and moved everything to the opposite side. Those are the stories that no one tells…but I thought you would enjoy a bit of “real life”. lol
After that…the “remodel” was underway…on the left side of the shed.
Posts were set in concrete and then gravel was added to the space.
A wall was framed to include a space for a window.
The window was created from an old door found at a resale store for $35!
Rafters and sheathing were added and then a metal roof was attached.
Siding was nailed to the frame to enclose the structure…
and a door was added to each end of the building. The large door is new and the small door was re-purposed from the old shed.
The mower has a new home!

A hole was cut in the garden-side of the shed to make a new opening. The second “old door” was re-purposed and moved to that space.

Then…everything came out of the shed to make room for the interior remodel.
“She understood that the hardest times in life to go through were when you were transitioning from one version of yourself to another.” Sarah Addison Allen
A new wall was framed and covered. We used left-over boards from our barn construction which also freed up storage space in the barn! A double win!
New wall!
Behind the wall is additional storage.
The walls were painted white…
and the floors were painted green.
Floor paint is Inland SW 6452 from Sherwin Williams.
Tools were hung on the new wall with a flexible hook system
The potting bench was returned to its home…
and this storage area got a facelift…we added a new wire basket to the wall, rearranged some of the tools, and the ladder earned a permanent home in the space next to the tools.
Stain was added to the new exterior structure to match the existing building.
