Thrift Store Decor and How to Shop!

Thrift shopping is all about the HUNT! The thrill of finding a special item at a bargain price. It's also a great way to upcycle, recycle, and keep things out of the landfill.

Adding found objects to your home decor makes your home unique. Here are some things to keep in mind while shopping.

Here are a few items that I recently found...(left) wood piece that was a frame/wall decoration, metal tray, sake pitcher, celadon bowl, (right photo) wire candle holders, and a pair of brass and blue porcelain candlesticks.

The prices were as follows:

  • Wood frame $6.99

  • Metal tray: $3.99

  • Celadon bowl: $2.99

  • Sake pitcher: 99 cents

  • Wire candleholders: 99 cents

  • Brass and Porcelain candlesticks $3.99

The blue candlesticks went immediately to work in the dining room.

The rest of the items were used to style a vignette that could be placed on a table anywhere in your home. Think LAYERING!

First layer is the wood frame.
The second layer is the metal tray.

then the celadon bowl filled with jelly beans...

each layer adds texture and visual interest.

Black wire candle holders were added next...one is turned upside-down to create height variations for the candles. And last...a wooden bunny that was a gift from a friend.

This combination of "thrifted treasures" can be used all year long...

simply change the flower and jelly beans to match the season!

More Thrifting Thoughts

Watch for store discounts...Some stores discount items by the color of their tag...each day of the week features a different color with 50% off the marked price.

Pricing at thrift stores can be a bit questionable at times...don't be afraid to negotiate...for instance...these two berry baskets were marked $1.99 and $.99. Same item...different price.

Their colors and shapes were nice and they matched some bowls I already had...so...they made the cut at 99 cents each.

Display in Stacks

Stacking cups, plates, or bowls is also a nice way to display thrift finds...
