How to Prepare a Grapefruit and other Fun Facts

Peak grapefruit season is between November and April making it the perfect refreshing winter fruit!

How to prepare a grapefruit!

Slice it in half...cut around the outside edge between the fruit and the skin with a serrated knife.

Next...cut on each side of the triangle shapes between the fruit and the membrane.

Then...scoop the fruit out with a spoon and enjoy. Easy Peasy!

You can also peel a grapefruit like an orange and eat it in sections. However, the membrane can be bitter so I recommend that you removing it before eating.

If you have a Costco near you...look for their 8 lb bag of red grapefruits...they are delicious and average $1 per grapefruit!

Did you know there are special spoons just for grapefruit? They have tiny serrated tips for scooping!


How did grapefruit get its name?


"It is believed that the name refers to the manner in which grapefruit grows in clusters on a tree.

If you see grapefruit growing on a tree, you will notice that they grow in clusters. It is suggested that these clusters resemble the shape of large yellow grapes and so the fruit was called a grapefruit.
