Laundry Day
Good Morning!
I hope you are doing well, staying healthy, and enjoying the slow transition to summer.
It seems that Isolation has forced us to find our way back to a simpler life...gardening, making bread, cooking with what is in the pantry, and staying at home instead of racing off to activities that keep us "busy." The merry-go-round has slowed...are we brave enough to step off before it winds up again? Hmmmm...
If we continue to find comfort, delight, and peace "in the moment"....I think we will have learned a great lesson that will carry us forward after "the time the world stopped."
Laundry Day
As I was thinking about a simpler life this week, I was reminded of my grandmother's clothes line...helping her with the wash and playing hide-and-seek in the hanging sheets...the smell of fresh laundry, crisp sun dried sheets, her apron, and the bag she used to hold her clothespins.
Do you have a clothes line? We do not...AND...I am very happy to have the convenience of a washing machine and dryer! But...hanging clothes on a line might just make a mundane chore...delightful!
So...our theme this week is LAUNDRY DAY....I took our Made on 23rd Linens outside to make a mundane chore a bit romantic and entertaining...be sure to click the video link below.

This is a very romantic look at laundry and I love the memories that it evokes...
But....have you ever heard anyone say..."I love to do laundry and vacuum and empty the dishwasher and mow the lawn and pull the weeds and dust and wash the dishes, and clean out the refrigerator and sort the mail and pay bills and clean the bathrooms?" Probably not! These are all mundane jobs that are zero fun.
So...how can we make day-to-day activities less tedious? Find a small way to ELEVATE the process..
Here are a few IDEAS...
Listen to a book or MUSIC while you work
Set a timer and REWARD yourself with a walk when you finish
Divide the chores with your partner/kids and RACE to the finish line
Find a PRETTY CONTAINER to hold your laundry soap, office supplies, mismatched socks, or cleaning supplies
Take your work outside or to a DIFFERENT LOCATION in the house (a new perspective can make you more productive)
Take a SLOW approach to the activity...delight in every dish/item you handle...remember where you purchased it...what function it provides...
Pour your favorite BEVERAGE in a special glass/tea cup/mug and enjoy it while you work
REPLACE old brushes and cleaning supplies with new brands you have not used before
Cut FRESH FLOWERS and place them in your work areas...desk, laundry room, bathroom, night stand...they might inspire you to stay a little longer and tidy up the space!
Chair and Bench Makeover
Stay-at-home continues to provide lots of time for "forgotten" projects at the Spofford Farm. This week it was two upholstery projects. Watch for a new blog post. I will share what I learned and mistakes you can avoid!

In the Garden
The Wisteria is blooming!
It is a miracle that this plant is still alive because I accidently cut the main trunk last year while I was trimming....oops!
After several years it has finally settled into its home...the trellis is an old ladder that was handed down to us from my Dad.
Golden Hour in the Garden
We harvested the first greens from the raised bed vegetable garden! My husband said it was the most expensive salad he has ever eaten. lol
In the Studio
The studio has been very busy filling orders! Thanks to everyone of you for supporting boutique businesses like ours!
We have a new curbside pick-up process for local customers that is contact-less and working very well! Your package will be waiting for you on the steps just inside the studio door. The door is open from 10-5 for your convenience!

Our garden is growing slowly and we feel a little bit like the movie The Biggest Little Farm. We have a few pest issues...moles, slugs, rabbits, birds, and deer. So...you will find me wandering around the property with coffee grounds and ivory soap shavings as we work to "discourage" plant nibbling.
Until next time,
