This is a fun family project for the holidays and/or a zoom activity you can make with friends.

All you need is air dry modelling clay, acrylic or chalk paint, and Mod Podge or clear matte spray paint. I found this brand of clay at the Dollar Store about a month ago but you can also order it online from craft stores like JoAnns.

Optional Supplies: rolling pin, a pizza wheel, cookie cutters, sand paper, and anything with texture to press into the clay.

1) Roll or press the clay flat to about 1/4 inch thick.

2) Cut out random shapes and pinch the edges up to create a lip. Dip your finger in water and smooth edges. (This will expedite the sanding process later.)
Helpful Hint: If you use cookie cutters with this clay, place a piece of plastic wrap between the cutter and the clay. The plastic wrap will help the clay release from the cutter.

3) Place the finished pieces on a rack and let them dry thoroughly. (Note: Ours took about 48 hours to dry completely but this will depend on your climate and humidity.)

4) Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper or a file. Wipe the pots with a damp cloth to remove clay dust.

5) Choose your color palette and paint as desired!

6) Use a small brush to apply speckles to your pots. Load the brush with paint and then run your finger or a craft stick across the bristles to create splatter.

7) Apply Mod Podge or matte spray to finish the pots. Let dry.
