This week I invite you into our home for a virtual holiday tour. I will share decorating ideas using interesting items from the past and a few items you might find in your cupboard. I hope you will join the tour!
In the Kitchen
Welcome to our kitchen! We are keeping it simple this year with items found at thrift stores, gathered from our yard, or made with items from the pantry.
A black metal candle holder was placed inside a wood bowl and then filled with pinecones. Layering objects can create interesting compositions!
Gold bells were tied to a thrift store tree...
...and pinecone candles sit on top of three black canisters...the candles were also a thrift store find!
Dried orange slices...
...and pomander balls were added for fragrance and color!
In the Family Room
Welcome to our family room...the inspiration for this room is Nature with a hint of Camping. It all started with the red lanterns!
We hope the stockings will soon be hung...but..they have been lost in the mail...twice! Tis the Season!
Here are some things you can do to create this theme in your home.
Fill bowls and vintage containers with pinecones or felt garlands. Group items together in odd numbers for visual cohesion.
Mix pinecones, whole shell nuts, fresh greens, and bells
Use rubber boots for containers or decorating accessories
Arrange fresh greens and berries in a vintage lunch box
Connect all your elements together with a table runner and a few scattered pinecones
Create a tablescape with a long wood container filled with nuts, fresh greens, and candles. Layer different textured table runners to add interest...velvet and burlap make an interesting pairing!
Hang a wool blanket and fresh greens on a ladder to add height and color to your walls
Place taller items on one end of the mantel to draw attention. Use smaller items and repeated color to bring your eye across the mantel.
Add a bit of whimsy to your decor like these wire red curls.
Continue your theme with small details and twinkle lights
Fill vintage picnic baskets with fresh greens
Light candles and crank up the holiday music!
DIY Candle Trees
Did you know that you can turn ordinary candles into beautiful whimsical trees? They are super easy to make and look very fancy!

DIY Cone Christmas Trees
The story of the red houses and the white trees...
In our last newsletter we used a mixture of baking soda and paint to add ceramic style texture to our window garden pots.
I am a little obsessed with this technique and used it again here to create white cone trees...it worked beautifully!
Create different textures with your brush strokes. Here you see vertical lines...
and here you see "frosted" texture on the left and horizontal lines on the right.
Glitter be gone!
I found these little red houses at Target but their roofs were covered with glitter. I'm not a huge fan of glitter...so...
...the roofs got the same paint treatment as the cone trees...
