We are very happy to welcome Kora Goodman to our blog today. I met Cora about a year ago when we were featured Makers at the West Elm Store in Portland. She has a beautiful product line of handcrafted botanical skincare and herbal gifts. 

We asked Cora a few questions about her process....

For us, the process is just as much (if not more) a part of the work as seeing a project completed. What do you love about your process?

Kora: For me, the process is a creative expression as well as an offering to my customer.  In blending different herbs, scents and colors, I get to connect with the plants and think about the healing benefits this product will bring to the one who will use it.

We find that music or an audiobook playing behind us while we work keeps us energized. Do you have a favorite way to work when it comes to things going on around you?

Kora: Depending on what is happening in the world and in my personal life, I enjoy playing different podcasts or music in my studio while I create.  Lately, I have been listening to an instrumental meditative compilation.  I find it lets my thoughts flow easily and I often dream up new products while working with this on.

Working alone in a studio can be lonely for some, and can be freeing for others. Do you have people you work with/around, or do you prefer to work on your own?

Kora: Although my personal studio is private, it is located in a communal warehouse with as many as 40 other artists working throughout the day.  I feel very lucky to be able to close my door when it is time to focus and then prop it back open as an invitation for a visit on other occasions.  I've recently decided to open my studio up as a storefront as well.  I plan to have a few hours during the week where customers can shop the skincare line directly from my shelves while I make products behind the bar. I think it will be a great way to combat any isolating feelings.
